The Downtown South Boston Farmers' Market, located in the lower public parking area on Broad Street, will officially open its 2010 season Saturday, June 19. Farmers' Market is open 6 days a week beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Since its inception in 1987, the market has offered fresh locally-grown produce as well as home-baked goods and other locally produced items. Items available at the Grand Opening include onions, beets, cabbage, vegetable bedding plants and flower bedding plants. The Farmers' Market extends a hearty welcome to area residents to visit the market and support the local economy by buying fresh, buying locally.
The 2010 season of the Farmers' Market features the Halifax County Master Gardeners that will be on site to answer questions regarding a variety of issues, including such things as pest control, plant selection, drought-tolerant species, etc. The group working on the Botanical Garden Project at Edmunds Park will give an update.
